Actually Works :)

Aerium was easier to setup and clean than I expected and turned the darkest shade of green in about 5 weeks, so I'm sure it pulled out a lot of CO2. Other than opening the window, this is the best option, especially during the hot & cold months here in the Northeast. A little pricy but a great long-term investment. Hoping office buildings and public areas embrace this concept and allow the aerium to be scalable.

Fast response to my request!

After submitting my request to change my refill subscription from 60 days to 30 days, I didn't expect to receive a response for 48 hours or so. Instead I received a response in less than 12 hours. Thank you for the quick turnaround!

this system works great

I am getting about 5 weeks before I need to change out. plants love the leftovers!

Hi Chris,
Thank you for your review! We're very glad you enjoy your refills and that your spirulina is keeping your plants happy and healthy. We look forward to shipping your next refill!
Very Respectfully,
Dan

Windows

Although I think this is a great concept, I have found that opening my windows for a short period is the most effective. In Hawaii this is easy to do. The aerium does not bring the CO2 levels down enough on their own.

Hi GH,
Thank you for taking the time to write a review and test the aerium! At this time, the aerium is designed for a small, unventilated room, where windows may not be able to be opened (especial in cities). We're excited to incorporate your feedback to scale up our living technology so we can have an even larger effect in bigger buildings!
Thank you for your support!

Not sure it is working

The first kit I received was fine. It became dark green after one month. In fact, very dark, But the second after one month is very pale. I am not dure it has enough algae for my room. Obviously, I followed the instructions. In particular, I added distilled water. Let us how it goes with the 3rd kit.

Hi Vadim,

Than you for reaching out! We're sorry that your unit is not performing as expected. The transition from light green to dark is exactly what should be observed. The second shipment will be replaced free of charge because of our Live Algae Guarantee, as long as your refill shipment was opened within 48 hours. Contact us at support@algenair.com so we can get your replacement started!

Great Concept, Needs to be Larger

I think the concept is great and I like to see the algae grow. I have a relatively large office with a CO2 sensor. Unfortunately when the Aerium is running, it doesn’t do much to affect the CO2 levels. Levels rise the same as they were before I had it. The system needs to be 20x larger to help reduce ambient CO2 levels in my office. From what I’ve read, humans emit 1 kilo of CO2 per day, so unfortunately the small size of they system doesn’t make a huge impact. I would love to see some way to have this system permanently sequester the CO2 I breath.

Thank you so much for taking the time to review the aerium! We agree that the current scale of the aerium is just the beginning. We are actively scaling up our technology to have more of an impact in enclosed spaces like yours! We realize every indoor environment is different, so your CO2 levels may not be affected with just one unit. We appreciate your support and patience as we scale up our devices for larger use cases to remove more CO2 than ever before!

My Two Aeriums

I am new to Algen Air and already have 2 Aeriums. It has been a long while since I have heard the term "photosynthesis" and excited to have it right in my home!!!
As for the Oxygen and Fresh Air within walls with immovable windows...it is the reason I can be in such a nice apart except for its lack of air flow...
Thank You for making all of this come together for me!

Thank you very much for your review of your aeriums! We are glad that you enjoy bringing photosynthesis into your indoor ecosystem, and we are excited to continue supplying refills!

Good start, needs refinement

Lights are on always, so not appropriate for a bedroom where you need it the most.

Glass and valve assembly means it's a clean look but a simpler setup would be a fish tank bubbler on a hose that's replaceable.

I knew what I was getting into just wish for the price they'd have thought to control lighting separately since algae need time to rest...

Thank you so much for your review of the aerium! We appreciate customer input because we are always in the iterative process of product and user experience refinement. For this version of the aerium, the lights are always on for continuous photosynthesis. The homogenous mixing allows for ample cellular shading as to not overwhelm their photosystems. We recognize that a lot of customers use the aerium in their bedroom and are working on a light-blocking solution for this exact reason!
We’re working on improvements so that the light (and bubbling) can be controlled via Bluetooth in future hardware releases. Very early on in development, a submerged airline was ruled out due to contamination potential and we went with an easy to clean design (the clean look is an added benefit).
We appreciate your patience with the current aerium design and hopefully, this gives a preview of what our hardware team has in store for the future!

The Aerium In Your Home

The Aerium which facilitates photosynthesis produces Fresh Air as it states. It has operated in my environment which has immovable windows and seems to be the direction of high rise living.
I know that every home / office ought to have an Aerium.
If you have a pets they will love the sound of the bubbles...!

The quality of refills greatly vary.

Some refills last as described. But my last refill arrived already very green and the Aerium got completely clogged within three weeks and had to be turned off.

Hi Sergei,

Thank you very much for your review! We're always looking to improve our customer experience, so you input is greatly appreciated. The spirulina that we ship is a living organism, so there is some natural variability among refill batches. We're happy to offer our Live Algae Guarantee that ensures viability all the way to your doorstep.

We'll follow up with you with regard to your hardware to make sure that we correct any issues you are having with your unit. The microalgae culture will transform from a light green to a dark opaque rich green color over ~45 days, but the viscosity should not 'clog' up your unit. We're happy to troubleshoot and get your hardware functional again so you can continue growing fresh spirulina in your home as soon as possible!

Thanks again!

Healthy algae on demand

The algae refill was delivered securely and the algae is growing healthily. Dark green color after a few weeks. Feathered seems like it sticks to the glass more than the mint.

nice, simple, easy to work with

packaging was very clearly labeled and made it obvious which bag was algae and which was nutrients. seems good to me

Classic Mint vs Premium Feathered Spirulina

Besides the cost - Feathered more expensive than Classic Mint.
Is there any difference between the two as far as Oxygen -generating capability?
Or is it one just better looking than the other?
Anyhow, I am enjoying my Aerium , knowing that it's refreshing my room with the Oxygen it generates.

Hi Gary,

Great question, and we are glad you are enjoying your aerium!

Premium feathered delivers the same great performance as our original mint, with the added aesthetic benefit of beautiful rich stranding, visible with the naked eye. This rich texturing is due to the microscopic differences at the cellular structure. In fact, the cell length of premium feathered is over 25x longer than mint!

Cool device, good vote with your dollars

A month in- good product, happy with the purchase. It sits next to me on my desk while I'm working. It's super cool to see the algae population change in color and concentration gradually from day to day, and the water bubbling sound serves as a nice backdrop.

To be clear, having separately done some work in air quality measurement, my expectations were not that this single device would make a difference in room level CO2. Perhaps it consumes CO2 equivalent to having 25 plants- that's good but one would need to get to high hundreds to low thousands of plant-equivalents to make a human-noticeable dent in a human-occupied room. But I'm a strong believer in voting with dollars and see this purchase and support of the fundraise as contributing a signal that personal CO2 absorption is a useful area of venture and research investment- because with venture investments we might well get a surprise 100x improvement in efficiency or capability in devices like this- and that would be a game changer.

So I can't recommend the device strictly for noticeable CO2 reduction- that's just not possible on any technical platform at the moment. But it's really cool to look at and listen to and it's exciting to have an "early days" product that down the road could have a huge impact.

Refill kit works well, but there should be a more flexible delivery schedule.

A scheduled automatic delivery makes no sense for this product, because it will be used up on an unpredictable schedule. With dog biscuits, you could find a substitute before next scheduled delivery if you ran out. If , on the other hand, you still had some biscuits left when next delivery came, you could give them to one of your dog’s friends. Neither adjustment is available with Algen refills. Each customer should have an account, to use to order refills a few days before needed.

Renewal?

Unit works well in reducing carbon dioxide. But how do you know when you need refills and how to clean out unit?

Hi Stanley,

We are very pleased that you are enjoying the benefits of your aerium! Your spirulina is ready for a refresh it turns opaque green which could be between 30-60 days. For instructions on changing your culture, we also have a maintenance video for your refill kit on our FAQ's.

Makes me feel good.

I'm not sure how much oxygen it can actually produce but looking at it makes me feel good.
The algae turned very dark in only a few weeks so I don't think you can last 2 months between refills. I wish it wasn't so loud

We are so glad that your aerium makes you feel good!

We're always trying to improve the aerium and are upgrading our pump to be much quieter. Once rolled out, only the white noise of the bubbling is audible. We would be happy to put you on the waitlist for the base upgrade if you would like!

Also, for users with more ambient light, they may find that a 30 day growth cycle works better than the 60 day option.

We're glad to hear you are enjoying your aerium and happy to help with anything in the future!
